As an immigrant from Aguascalientes, Mexico, Neri’s passion for advocacy began while advocating for labor and immigration rights as a community organizer in California’s Central Valley and later as a housing rights advocate for communities throughout Los Angeles. It didn’t take long for Neri to find his way to GGU’s Litigation Center with plans to combine his passion for advocacy with key litigation skills. Soon after, Neri made a name for himself through hard work and determination. He earned a spot on GGU’s National Trial Team and went on to participate in several mock trial competitions and win an award for professionalism.

Throughout law school, Neri made sure to use the litigation skills he learned by clerking at the Public Defender’s Office in San Francisco and Contra Costa County. The practical skills he learned from coaches and teammates alike, allowed Neri to confidently argue motions at trials and establish rapport with judges and opposing counsel alike. In the summer of his 1L year, Neri taught Evidence and Mock Trial Skills to Bay Area high school students at UC Berkeley Law as part of a fellowship program run by The Center for Youth Development Through Law. This opportunity allowed him to mentor bright, young minds throughout the East Bay. To this day, Neri calls this experience, “one of the highlights of my life, and GGU made it happen”.

The practical, in-court knowledge and experience Neri gained at GGU’s Litigation Center will prove invaluable when he makes the transition from law school to the real world. Upon graduation, he plans to take the California Bar exam and become a criminal defense attorney.
